2023 SCHEDULE
RULES
1.2e – Nose may extend a maximum of fifty-six inches(56”) from center of front hub forward to the farthest point. May run aftermarket nose. May run fabricated nose. 1.3a – Mini roof may be used, no larger than the top of the roll cage, must mount flat to the roll cage. 1.5f – Body cannot exceed eighty-four inches(84”) in width at its widest point. 1.5d – Front fenders cannot exceed thirty-seven inches(37”) in height measured from the ground. 1.5g – Maximum three(3) nose spoilers maximum Four inches(4”) x Thirty-six inches(36”) 1.6c – Doors cannot exceed thirty-seven inches(37”) in height measured from the ground. 1.7a – Fifty-four inches(54”) maximum from center of rear hub to top corner of quarter panel. 1.7b – Maximum Three(3) rear spoiler supports, ten inches(10”) in height, cannot extend forward past front of main hoop on roll cage. All braces must not exceed one inch(1”) 1.7f – Quarter panel may extend a maximum of Fourty-nine inches(49”) from center of hub rearward to the end of panel. 1.7g – Rear of quarter panel cannot exceed Fourty-two inches(42”) in height measured from the ground. 1.8 – Rear spoiler cannot exceed eighty-four inches(84”) at its widest point. 2.0 – May run fuel series body rules Rules: 1. Any full or mid-sized American made car 1960 or later. 2. Firewalls and floor may be replaced but must be made of metal. Decking may cover area beside driver and extend to rear of car. 3. Front and rear bumper bars are recommended. Rear bumper bars must not extend past the centerline of tires and must be capped and sharp edges must be grounded off. 4. Minimum weight with driver after race 2650 lbs. (leaf car). 5. All weight, if added, must be white with car number on them. 6. Weight must be displayed on car. MANDATORY Chassis/Suspension 1. 1960 or later rear wheel drive car frame/unibody. Stock frame may be replaced behind rear-end with tubing frame connectors allowed. 2. Stock clip must extend from the firewall forward to the most forward suspension/steering component. Engine does not have to match clip used. a. Clip must extend 24" from front weight jack bolt to end of clip. Must add 25 lbs. in front of motor plate if under 24". Ford clips front crossmember may be reinforced for forward rods. 3. Stock lower control arms may be used, and may be modified for stronger ball joints and or relocation of shocks. Aftermarket lower control arms may be used plus/minus 1” of stock type arms. If using aftermarket lowers, 25 lb weight must be in front of the motor plate. 4. Suspension bushing may be aftermarket. No adding of non-stock components. 5. Steering components may be changed in part or whole assemblies. Quick release hub recommended. Rack and pinion ok. 6. Spindles may change, aftermarket rotors ok. Aftermarket pedal assembly and wide 5 hubs ok. 7. Upper control arms and mounting may be changed. 8. Screw jacks allowed on all springs. Leaf springs may use shackles, lowering blocks, and/or sliders. Replacement coil springs must be 4.5-inch main outside diameter. Leaf springs may be composite. 9. Shock allowed in any position. No canister/chargeable or adjustable shocks. No coil-over's. Non Schrader valve kit ok. 1 per wheel max, 4 total. 3-Link - 2750 lbs 3-link suspension system will be permitted bars or half leafs. The lower link must be fixed from heim joint to heim joint. No spring loaded bars allowed on lower link. Top 3rd link may run biscuit bar item # 91045509 (or equal to) from speedway motors only, adjustable for pinion angle. Rear coil-overs permitted with the 3-link system. Single spring only, eliminators allowed,,no stackable springs. SPRING MUST BE A MINIMUM OF 4" DIAMETER, no progressive, no barrel type. No 4-link suspension system. No adding or additional suspension devices, including bird-cages. No other adjustments allowed: this includes reece bar, lift bar, 5th arm, and shock on the top of the rear end. GM stock metric 4-link ok. - 2650 lbs. Mono leaf set up will be legal. If running coils and monos, coils must be 4 ½ inch and may run specified biscuit bar on top as 3bar cars do or a shock speedway motors #91045509 (or equal to), 2750 lbs, Engine 1. 365 ci max. cast iron V8 engine. Engine may be deburred for oil flow and prepped for racing. No dry sump or lightening allowed. 2. Any cast iron block. No aluminum blocks. Stock type aftermarket blocks allowed. 3. Engine externals are all open, i.e. pumps, hoses, pulleys, brackets, oil pan, etc. Radiator and headers may also be aftermarket. 4. Aluminum intakes allowed. No porting or polishing of intake of any kind allowed. May be milled to fit, one gasket per side. Spot Deburring from factory allowed and will be determined legal or illegal at the discretion of techman. 5. Flat tappet lifters only. Any valve spring, retainers. Roller rockers, polylocks and screw in studs and guide plates allowed. No aftermarket shaft rockers allowed. Stud girdles are allowed. 6. Any steel crank and rod combination. Any dish or flattop pistons no dome. 7. Any production cast iron head except no bowtie vortex on Chevrolet but allowing 034 bowtie ONLY 034 ONLY. May angle mill the heads, must be within 3 degrees of factory stock. No cutting inside the valve pocket. May match port the intake runners 1/2" maximum. No porting or polishing of ports. Heads may be machined for installation of larger valves, springs, and screw in studs. 2.02 intake and 1.6 exhaust valves max. No exotic valves. No titanium valves. 8. Aftermarket heads allowed are the GM SR TORKER #042660, Dart #10320010P or #10310010P, or World Products Sportsman II #011250 or #011150. Engine Quest CH3501, 318a, 5303. May angle mill the heads, must be within three degrees of factory stock. No cutting inside the valve pocket. May match port the intake runners 1/2" maximum. If you have a head you would like us to consider, please contact us with info on the head. There will be no heads any better than what is already allowed. 200 runner 64 cc. If you ran Punisher and had 49 cc heads, you will be grandfather claused in, but heads must remain stock out of box and you must have 25 lbs in front of motor plate. Heads may not be less than 49 cc and will be checked at Series’ discretion. If you haven’t run with Punisher, do not have these heads. If you have these heads, they will be checked. Must be out of box specs. One year grace (2023) on these heads, then we will revisit this issue. 25534351C small port bowtie vortec head will be added, this head is available and not better than what we allow. 185 runner. 9. Engine must be located with #1 spark plug in front of or lined up with corresponding ball joint. 10. 602s sealed crate engine no weight limit, 602 unsealed will be 2650 lbs. 11. 604 sealed crate will be 2650 lbs. Unsealed 2700 lbs. 12. 604 will be allowed to be bored .040 max with flat top piston. Must run stock stroke, stock rods and complete stock valve train. 13. Only Ford head allowed World product #053040 and Dart #13410010 or any stock Ford manufactured head. Fuel System 1. Manual fuel pump or belt drive fuel pump allowed. No electric fuel pumps allowed. 2. Fuel cell mandatory. Protected fuel lines and metal filters recommended. 3. Gasoline only. No alcohol. 4. Single 4-barrel carburetor. 2" spacer allowed. 5. Two-throttle return springs required. 6. Aftermarket pedal with toe hook recommended. Cable operated throttle strongly discouraged. Drivetrain 1. Engine and transmission must match i.e. GM-GM etc. 2. Flywheel must be steel. Hydraulic release bearing allowed. 3. Mini clutches allowed. 4. Transmission must have working reverse. 5. Automatic transmission allowed. Coolers and/or lines must be safe for driver. Must use Safety Blanket. 6. Rear-end must be an all steel housing, and brand. GN or wide 5 ok. A magnetic steel tube quick change rear-end will be permitted. 7. Driveshaft painted white. Carbon fiber drivesaft ok (safety). 8. All manual transmissions must use steel safety bell housing with an inspection hole of at least 2" to inspect clutch assembly. 9. Bert, Brinn transmission or equal allowed. 10. Reverse mount starters allowed. Electrical System 1. Wiring, switches, and gauges open. 2. Starters open must mount in stock location. Ford type relays recommended for all. 3. Ignition system open except no magnetos or crank fire ignition. 4. Battery must be located and secured safe for driver. Wheels and Tires 1. Hoosier 1350, any American Racer. American Racer Pro 2 or 3. Any left front tire. D21 and D55 Tires and wheels, with no grooving or sipping. 2. No treating, prepping or softening of tires. 3. Large wheel studs mandatory. 4. Any 10" max wide steel wheel allowed. Safety 1. No radios allowed. 2. Must use receivers. 3. Metal racing seat with 5 point harness. Approved Head and neck restraint. 4. MUST PASS ROLL CAGE SAFETY CHECK. 5. We are recommending all cars have driver’s side door plates put in, min of (2). This will be mandatory by July 2023, it’s for your own good. ENGINE PROTEST PROCEDURE One protest per night (back protest allowed). Protester $400.00. Protestee $400.00 $150 to Inspector/ $150 to series/ $150 to legal car If both cars are found illegal, $300 to Inspector/ balance to series. Engine tear down - Both teams will agree on bore and stroke measurement, calculate and agree on final cubic inches. One inspector and one driver per team allowed to be present with car during tear down. Engine displacement calculator Visual Protests Protestor $80.00. Visuals will be before any feature. $80 will be kept by series, no matter the outcome. If found illegal, the car will be disqualified for the night unless team can make changes before feature. Tire Protests $140 per tire from protestor. **COSSS reserves the right to amend rules as needed to keep competition as close as possible for the first 4 races of the 2023 season. ** Keep in mind, this is what we are working on. Our 2-year plan is to cut back on motor expense. We have professional engine builders working on a very good motor package as well as a cheaper tire deal for the future. Nothing will be sprung on you all at once.
